Do you own a friendly dog? Emmanuel Hospice is seeking a volunteer handler/dog team to visit our patients through our Pet Visitor program. The goal of the Pet Visitor program is to provide joy and increased quality of life for those in our care.

As a Pet Visitor volunteer team you and your dog will  spend one-on-one time with an assigned patient(s). Your visit will offer the patient companionship and an opportunity for engagement with your dog. Most Pet Visitor volunteer teams work once a week for approximately one hour (give or take). We serve patients "where ever they call home" (private residents, residential setting, skilled nursing setting).

We offer our volunteers a comprehensive hospice orientation program. The human volunteer/handler will participate in our self-paced Patient and Family Support volunteer orientation program. Upon successful completion of the orientation program the four-legged volunteer will participate in a pet companion certification process. Through a generous community grant Emmanuel Hospice will cover the cost of the pet certification. We will walk through the certification process with you and be there every step of the way.

Qualifications for the pet companion certification begins with a friendly dog, aged one year or order, who has lived in your home for at least six months. Of course your dog must be house trained, vaccinated, and no history of aggressive behavior.

Looking for ways to connect with patients and their families? Consider being a Patient Check-In Caller! Each Thursday morning you will call a selected list of patients to ensure they are well stocked in supplies, equipment and medications heading into the weekend. This is a way to support our clinical team while bringing a bit of helpful conversation to our more vulnerable patients. 

We are seeking individuals to help with a variety of clerical work and office support work. No skills required, we will train you for the task at hand. This volunteer role has flexible days and hours. We will work with your schedule.

Provide companionship to a patient or a break to the caregiver. Spend time chatting, reading, or helping with small chores around the home. 

Seeking veterans or active duty service members to provide companionship to veteran patients. A great opportunity to swap stories and support each other by sharing the common thread of military service.

Join our bereavement team by checking in with family members of patients who have passed. Training provided. This opportunity can be completed from home.

Seeking a licensed individual to provide periodic hair cutting/styling needs to hospice patients. Services would be provided where the "patient calls home". This opportunity is flexible, based on your availability and patient needs.

In an effort to enhance patient wellness a Spiritual Support volunteer will engage one-on-one with patients to discuss spiritual topics, scripture, hymns, or prayer. Open to all faiths and spiritual backgrounds.

Are you called to serve? We are seeking a volunteer who is skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office applications to assist our Bereavement Manager with administrative work. This is a nice opportunity to be involved in our mission by working behind the scenes.

Emmanuel Hospice is seeking an experienced photographer to provide complimentary photos of patients experiencing special moments while in our care.  Patients requesting special moments, or opportunities, are referred to as "Patient Wishes". Some examples of past Patient Wishes include a special photo of a patient with a loved one, patient fishing with family, patient taking spouse out on a date, a trip to a local attraction, etc. As a volunteer photographer your photos would create a cherished keepsake for patients and their families.

Hospice training will be provided.

We're looking for volunteers who enjoy crafting, or just want to give back to patients at their end of life in a creative way. You don't have to be a professional artist to do this! Your role would be to assist patients with completing an art project (drawing, painting, quilting, even calligraphy!) We provide the art supplies, you provide the comforting presence.

Hospice orientation and training will be provided.
